Literacy and Technology

Before leaving Leadership Academy we set a goal to branch out and try new literacy websites (and apps) with our students and report back to the group by Thanksgiving.

Sheila has been using abcya.com, readingbear.org and cookie.com with her students.

I got some great iPad/iPhone app suggestions from a parent and my kiddos love them!!  Right now I have been using them on my iPad with one of my small guided reading groups.
Three apps are from Teacher Created Materials:
Hang Man  $1.99
Tic Tac Toe  $1.99
Sight Words 1-300  $8.99  (They have less expensive versions of this app with fewer sight words.)
The other two apps are from Lakeshore:
Sound Sorting  $0.99
Tic Tac Toe  Free

Looking forward to hearing about more great sites and apps!!

Happy, Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!

  1. I know we're focusing on sites for Literacy, but I have to share xtramath.org with everyone. It's a FREE site used for building fact fluency. The teacher enters the names of her students on the site and a password(4 digit number) is assigned to each student. There is a short video that explains how it works to the students. Progress reports are emailed to the teacher each week. I've used it all year and really like it.
